Audio Editing

Audio editing can be a very useful tool no matter what you do for a living. I am a big fan of photography and I plan on getting a nice camera in the coming months so if I end up shooting some video I can use my new audio editing techniques to tweak the audio however I so choose. I also like making my own playlists for when I go to the gym or just for regular listening. Audio editing can be used for playlists to trim down parts of songs that are unnecessary or can be used to take out parts of songs you don’t like. You can also use it to combine tracks and make your own songs using acapella’s and  instrumentals. I have used programs in the past like Sony ACID to create all kinds of things. You can make long mixes of all of your favorite songs and basically be your own DJ. Audio editing can also be used in many professions. If you are interested in being a DJ at a club or being on the radio audio editing will be a major part or your job. You can also expect to use audio editing a lot if you are a producer or if you have any part in the music industry. Audio books are becoming increasingly popular so editing the audio for them is also a possibility. The movie industry has a major need for audio editing as soundtracks and sound effects are a huge part of every movie. Especially for animated movies, where the entire movie is one long audio track of people doing voice overs for the animated characters. In conclusion audio editing is an extremely useful skill to have and I am very excited to fine tune my skills in this next lesson.

  1. Hi Mark! I really like the header you created for your blog, it looks like a combination of many different images, and it came out well. I didn’t think about a lot of uses you listed about combining songs you like or Djing them using the sound programs. I think that’s a pretty cool use.

  2. Mark, you win for best header! Go Rangers!
As far as audio editing goes, I thought of careers in music instantly as well but I never even considered how much the movie industry relies on this for big budget animated films. I actually laughed when watching the Audacity tutorial because of how specific and nit-picky the guy was being. He was worried about cleaning up sounds that I could barely hear at all. Now with hindsight, I see why someone like him being so meticulous is important. When you’re looking for a film to make upwards of 200 million bucks, you want it to be perfect.

Thanks for helping me to see some things more clearly. Here’s to a great audio editing unit!

  3. Mark,
I like you you really evaluated all the uses of audio editing. A lot of people posts that Is aw said they couldn’t really use audio editing skills in their everyday lives, or career choice but I don’t think thats true! You identified many ways people can utilize audio editing skills such as making your own playlists for the gym (who doesn’t want to get hype to their own favorite songs/mixes!) and editing the audio on a video you might have recorded.
You mentioned using audio skills for radio and things like producing and you’re so right. These are two things I plan on doing in the future

  4. You header is creative and funny. I know things about you just by looking at it like how you like hockey, djing, and gaming. This could also be a mash up of a bunch of random things. You definitely used your image editing skills we learned in class to make this. I don’t think you would just find a picture like your header
